The idea for this working group was born from a conversation Ronald Mendoza (USC), Donovan Stewart (Leyden U) and Alberto Moreiras (Texas A&M) had after some sessions of the Collegium Phaenomenologicum in Cittá de Castello, Italy, in July 2023.  The connections between epochal nihilism and the contemporary predicament seem ineluctable.  We would like to start reading some classic texts on so-called "European Nihilism" (Nietzsche and Heidegger) in order then to proceed to the study of more contemporary authors on nihilism, from Cioran to Wendy Brown, and through, for instance, Keiji Nishitani, Maurice Blanchot, Emmanuele Severino, Franco Volpi, Jean-Luc Nancy, Bernard Stiegler, Ray Brassier, Mehdi Belhaj Kacem, and Jean Vioulac.

The working group is open to committed participants and at this point is composed of about twenty members from several countries and academic traditions.
